Don Bosco Religious Education Program
We at the Don Bosco Religious Education Program look upon religious education as a total parish experience involving not just the child, but also parents, families, catechists, and priests that form our parish community of faith. We believe that religious education is getting to know Jesus and learning what is expected of one who chooses to follow Him in the catholic tradition. Our program reflects an integrated learning experience, composed of learning, catechesis, prayer, sacramental preparation, traditional catholic doctrine, biblical studies, liturgy, community building, and other dimensions of vibrant church life. To accomplish this mission, we have been given a share in the charism of the Salesian Family. This charism gives shape and provides direction and power for all that we do, especially for youth. Through the light of the faith, we hope to develop in those entrusted to our care a deeper relationship with God.
Class Schedule
Classes, for first grade through eight grade run from mid-September through mid- May. Classes are offered on Monday through Friday by a loving group of certified and dedicated volunteers. We welcome all children, including those with special needs.
Sacramental preparation is done in accordance with the norms of the Archdiocese of New York; Children must be enrolled in the Parish’s Religious Education Program and are expected to attend grades 1 – 8. Children requiring the sacraments of First Communion generally prepare during first through third grades. Young people requiring the sacrament of Confirmation generally prepare during eighth and ninth grades. For older children wishing to receive these sacraments, there is a Special Sacraments class available through our RCIA program.
